The BEACON therapist: how they make your digital therapy successful

Posted by Priya Sholanki, MSW, RSW on Sep 4, 2018 2:30:12 PM

With BEACON, you’ll work with a therapist dedicated to you. You’ll form a relationship with them throughout your experience, from the initial assessment to the end of your course of therapy.

Let’s take a look at who they are, and how they help you.

All BEACON therapists are registered mental health professionals

Experienced, registered mental health professionals, BEACON therapists (primarily MSW, RSW) are not a “coach” or bot. All are trained and experienced in providing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and also have specialized training in providing effective therapy through the digital experience.  Your BEACON therapist is licensed to practice in the Canadian province or territory in which you reside.

The BEACON assessment and your therapist

After you’ve completed the detailed BEACON assessment online, your BEACON therapist reviews your responses, to gain a deep level of understanding of your situation and mental health concerns.

The assessment is your opportunity to share what you would like to work on – it’s an important part of your voice in your therapy, and it’s your first point of contact with your BEACON therapist.

Guiding your way forward

There are no phone calls or appointments with your therapist – instead of waiting for a once-a-week face-to-face session as in traditional therapy, with BEACON you can send a message to your therapist anytime, and they’ll review and guide your next steps, getting back to you within a business day or two with suggestions and possibly with new skills for you to learn.

Becoming empowered involves activities that help you understand your own thoughts and feelings, and improve your mental well-being. There’s a lot of independence involved in learning to rely on yourself using the tools of CBT, and your therapist is here to guide your way forward.

Tailoring your unique path

Your therapist will continuously monitor and tailor your therapy – it will be unique to you. If you feel like you are taking a step back, your BEACON therapist may modify your next step to help you better approach what you are dealing with.

By continuously measuring symptoms (this is done with what psychologists call “outcome measures”), you’ll have a transparent view of your progress. Part of your therapist’s role is to help you understand what your outcome measures mean and to help make decisions on where to focus.

Understanding your progress is one of the unique features of BEACON that will help lead you to success in your therapy.

Empowering you to manage your own emotions

Being empowered to help yourself means you’ll be able to maintain your mental health and resilience for life. While BEACON digital therapy focuses on taking time to learn and develop skills on your own, your BEACON therapist is there to answer questions, clarify instructions, and support you on your therapeutic journey.

Teaming up with your BEACON therapist will help you to take control of your own mental health going forward.
