Becoming a BEACON Client

Simple use of the Site does not create any form of psychologist-patient relationship, eTherapist-patient relationship, or any other relationship. The Site is for information purposes only.

You do not have any relationship with BEACON or any healthcare professional including a regulated healthcare professional until, where you have a treating relationship with a BEACON regulated health profession, that professional acknowledges the relationship, and:

  • you become a BEACON diagnosis assessment client when you submit your online assessment and select a time for a telephone call;
  • you become a BEACON non-diagnosis assessment client when you select the service and make a payment; or
  • you become a BEACON client when you sign up for the services through one of our third party insurance or wellness center partners.

You are not a client until after you consent to proceed with the BEACON course, and complete and agree to the terms of the “Consent for BEACON Therapist Assisted Internet CBT Treatment Course”.

In certain circumstances, for example if you withdraw your consent for certain services or delete your account, you may or may not be eligible to receive any refund for payments already made. Such a refund determination will be made at our sole discretion.

Until you are a BEACON client, you have no professional relationship with BEACON or any of its healthcare professionals and BEACON’s obligations extend only to maintaining the confidence of such Personal Information (as defined in the Privacy Policy) as you may have provided subject to the terms set out in the Privacy Policy and otherwise in complying with all applicable laws.

The BEACON platform does not provide an emergency or crisis response service. If you are feeling suicidal or in a crisis, please seek immediate help:

  • Call the emergency services at 911 for ambulance, police, or the fire service; or
  • Go to the nearest hospital emergency department.

Because you may not be located in the same city as your eTherapist, there is a page within the BEACON course that provides a list of emergency and non-emergency local resources and contacts which may be of assistance to you.

Online assessment questionnaires may not be reviewed immediately and messages sent through the BEACON platform are not constantly monitored.

If your eTherapist has reason to believe that you are in danger of physically harming yourself or others in ways that may be life-threatening, s/he will have to make a referral to a hospital and/or contact a family member, close other, or another person such as a police officer whom may be able to help protect you.

Complaints

BEACON therapists are health professions registered in Ontario and the province which you reside. Upon commencement of your clinical relationship with your BEACON therapist, you will be provided with their license or registration number, governmental regulatory body’s name, address, telephone number, email address, and website for reporting alleged violations of law or rule that govern the practice of social work or psychology within the jurisdiction in which your BEACON therapist is located and in which you are located.
